Both these new models replace the previous MultiPASS C20 and
C50 fax machines that established the company's reputation in
the multifunctional fax market. With a strong pedigree in printing
and faxing, the C70 and C80 cement Canon's position as a market
leader in office and business communications. The C70 is a fast
Group 3 machine while the C80 is Super Group 3 model with a
b&w transmission time half of the C70 at just 3 seconds
and colour at less than 36 seconds per page.
High quality bubblejet colour printing with PhotoRealism means
two pages per minute output. Operating as a stand alone fax,
both models have 12 touch, 100 coded and 111 group dials for
speed and convenience. The C70 has a 2MB memory while the C80
has 8MB enabling up to 426 page document storage.
The full capabilities of these new fax machines are powerfully
enhanced with the latest Desktop Manager Software. Looking like
an easy to read Windows package, this built in software is the
ultimate all-in-one colour desktop solution. Using thumbnail
icons it has an editable toolbar and Launcher icon for easy
additions of new applications. Although both machines are fully
functionable as stand alone faxes, they can be easily operated
with the Desktop Manager Software for everyday use.
Small Business Laser Faxes
Building on success is every manufacturer's hope and the latest
plain paper laser fax from Canon - the L350 - has a tough act
to follow and does it with style. The L350 replaces the best
selling plain paper fax in the European market, the L300 and
is a highly featured mid volume fax with Super G3 modem, a large
memory as standard and a printer driver for PC linking.
Sitting on a desktop it can be used as an office fax or local
printer when required. Speed is the most desirable element when
considering cost saving and a transmission time of just three
seconds per page achieves this. With 32 one touch dials and
100 coded speed dials, the L350 ensures the user does not have
to waste any time using the machine. The fax comes with a standard
memory of 160 pages - big enough to cope with the needs of a
large office department.
Using the L350 as a printer is simple and the 600 x 600 dpi
resolution provides sharply defined output of even half tones.
In this mode the L350 can print at six pages per minute. The
addition of a printer driver has added a strong extra dimension
to the functions of the new fax when linked directly to a PC.
Now the user can print from the PC and copy up to 99 pages at
six pages per minute. The L350 can be used as a back up printer
when needed and connected to the users PC.
Besides the addition of a larger memory for the L350, this
new model also has a huge paper supply of 250 sheets plus a
new 100 sheet ASF. Add to this the extra functional features
and the new L350 is ideally equipped to handle the most detailed
workload.
Ian Legg, Canon's Fax Product Manager, sees the L350 as the
ideal medium sized office fax.
" The L350 is far more than a fax and opens up that world
of multi-functionality that sometimes confuses users. The L350
operates as a strong fax, a printer when connected to a PC and
can be used to scan and copy. With this one machine the user
has solved most of the general office tasks in one box. "
The L350 is priced at £ 999 and has been available since
April 2000.
For Home Users
The breadth of Canon's new colour fax range is even greater
with the introduction of the new entry level models - the Fax
B210C and B230C - fully featured and with the option of a colour
printer connection for each. The intended market for these models
is the non IT literate home office user who needs a full colour
fax and the option of using the B210C or B230C as an optional
colour printer combined in a compact unit that can sit on any
desktop. As with the MultiPASS fax models, the B210C and B230C
are Group 3 faxes (the B230C a Super Group 3 variation) with
the same fast transmission times. Both models have delayed transmission
and sequential broadcasting up to 113 destinations with the
B210C having a mono memory size of 42 pages.
The inclusion of a handset with both models furthers adds to
the desirability and usefulness of the B210C and B230C. Users
can have an additional phone line adding to the flexibility
of the models for home and small office use. Also equipped with
Canon's own PhotoRealism for high quality printing standards,
the B210C and B230C can output colour pages at 2 per minute
or a handy 4.5 per minute in mono. So not only can they be seen
as fax machines, but using the optional colour printer connections,
as more than handy additions to any home, small or even medium
sized office.
Ian Legg, Canon's Fax Product Manager, sees the introduction
of four new colour fax models as a statement of Canon's intent
in the fax market.
" With the Canon name and pedigree in both fax and printers,
the new MultiPASS fax and B210C and B230C will set even higher
standards for affordable and productive multi-function devices.
At this level the need is for affordable faxes that can do more
than just send and receive - and that's the job of these new
models. They are fast, compact, economical and reliable. "
High Volume / Corporate Faxes.
The high volume fax market has a new contender with the introduction
of Canon's L1000 - a super heavy duty fax with expandability
and the capability to handle large volumes at high speeds.
The L1000 has a high speed print engine making it ideal for
the corporate office as a fax or printer. The new fax is a Super
G3 machine with ISDN option for super fast transmission times
of around three seconds per page. Combined with its 16ppm print
engine, the L1000 can act as a backup printer in the office
- acknowledged as three times more durable than the L800/L900
faxes it replaces, this new model also offers a higher volume
output of over 9000 pages per cartridge.
To complement the high speed and output of the L1000, quick
scanning of 30 ppm has been introduced. Documents can now be
scanned and sent within five seconds - making economy a real
target with the fax. Complementing the higher capacity of the
L1000, there is a 500 sheet paper cassette plus 100 multi-feeder
and the option of a further 500 sheet cassette. For those businesses
that receive transmissions throughout the night and then print
out in the day, this is an invaluable asset.
Thanks to its superb Canon laser engine, the L1000 produces
high definition quality output at a maximum 1200 dpi in printer
mode. There is also Ultra High Quality 64 grey scales for half
tones.
To be able to cope with the high volumes expected by many international
business users, the L1000 has a powerful memory to store up
to 192 pages that can be raised to over 700 with the additional
memory options. The receipt of confidential transmissions overnight
is one of the major concerns of many users, but the L1000 offers
superb options here. Various security functions enable the user
to store and collect these documents when required with total
security confidence. These include private memory boxes, confidential
transmission and mail boxes and designated user restrictions.
The L1000 has been designed to increase the versatility of
the office fax and the ability to use it as a powerful network
back up printer raises its desirability. But it is the depth
of options that really makes the L1000 stand out. The option
of both ISDN and Network upgrade kits enhances its speed and
versatility. The options currently available (and to be introduced
later in 2000) will transform the L1000 to an ISDN G4 fax, enable
it to be used as a single PC printer, upgrade it to a Network
printer and turn it into a Postscript printer. These optional
kits can be used either separately or as designated combinations.
In describing the new L1000 as ' the highest speed, most complete
laser fax for the corporate market," Canon sees it as the
ideal solution to the ever increasing needs of a digital market.
The ability to use it as a printer and a fax increases its pull
in this important sector.
Ian Legg, Canon's Fax Product Manager, sees the L1000 as the
convergence of fax and network printer in the ideal form.
" The L1000 is a specialist product aimed at a very specific
market. The need for super fast transmission times is very evident
in the international corporate market. This fax does both tasks
with ease and the result performance and cost savings are both
very impressive."
