Chancellor's Budget Boosts Small Business - Immediately!
The Managing Director of a home-based Internet business, was
surprised to discover that his Web Site had been bombarded by
over 60,000 visitors in just 24 hours. Yesterday (Wednesday),
millions of people across the UK searched the Internet for news
and summary of the government's latest budget report, but for
those who used the search engines, there were few sites offering
the latest information.
John Walker, who launched StartInBusiness.co.uk this time last
year, said: "We are very happy with the fact that we have attracted
so many people but are devastated by the fact that we didn't
make any money out them! If we had been prepared, we could have
sold from £1000 to £5,000 worth of pay-per-view advertising
on that page alone."
"We normally receive a modest 20,000 visitors per month, but
yesterday, we were peaking at 2 people a second." John discovered
that most of the visitors were directed from search engines
to a feature that had previously covered last year's budget
report but which had been updated shortly after the Chancellor's
Speech on Wednesday. He was very surprised to find that the
only other strong competitor was Ernst and Young, the multi-national
Accountants firm, who had obviously planned for the occasion
by submitting their pages to the search engines in good time.
